Why do I need a website?

Every business can benefit from a well designed website. Whether you are a sole trader working from home, an independent business owner selling products or services to a local market, or a medium-large service provider, Centrical can show you how a website can, very cost-effectively, help your business grow. How much does it cost?
Budget is obviously a big consideration for you and we'll always do what we can to work within your particular budget. However, in terms of 'value for money', the benefits of having a good quality website are endless - most sensible people don't mind investing in something that will provide them with long-term, good value. However, paying for an unprofessional, badly designed website that gives no thought to usability or purpose, is a waste of time, effort and money and must be avoided at all costs! To give you an idea of price, a ten page website usually costs approximately £1,000 - however, as with any quote, we need to discuss your specific requirements before we can give you an accurate price breakdown. Why not just create one myself?
This may appear to be a cheap and attractive option - indeed, the Internet is full of examples of 'all my own work!' However, it is very rare that one person will have expertise in all the skills needed to produce a high quality website - graphics skills, layout knowledge, copywriting skills specific for the internet, marketing and sales, html and other computer skills are all vital if you want to succeed on the Web. Also, be wary of friends or relatives offering you a website - check out their previous work first and understand what makes a good site, and what makes a 'bad' one. If your business and customers are important to you, it really is better to leave website design to a team of experts that know how to create the best site for your particular business needs - there's more to it than meets the eye! What do you mean by a 'bad website'?
A website can build your company and brand at a phenomenal rate! Done properly and marketed well, you can expect to see a rapid increase in sales volume, an increase in the number of times your customers buy from you, and an increase in the number of customers you currently have. However, be warned that a bad website can do exactly the opposite! A 'cheap', amateurish website can actually have a very bad effect on how your business is perceived. Read our list of what to avoid on a website - if your web designer recommends any of these gaffs, look elsewhere! Remember, your business reputation is at stake - a poor website can do more harm than good.

Internet users have 20 million Web sites to choose from, and more than two billion pages of content - and it's getting bigger by the day! It's very important that the people in your target market can find your site quickly and easily. I get plenty of traffic, but nobody contacts me/buys anything. What's wrong?
There could be a number of reasons. First of all, ask yourself "is it the right sort of traffic I'm attracting?" Getting people to your site is one thing, but are they the people who need/want your product or service in the first place? If not, they'll back out pretty quickly. We can help you get the right traffic to your site, draw them through it and help increase your 'conversion rate'.

Secondly, look at the usability aspect of your site and do some tests: approach a number of people (ideally, outside your business) ask their opinion of your website and get them to perform simple tasks (eg find a product, buy something, contact you, etc). Make a note of the results and update your site accordingly. Finally, read our checklist of 'what makes a bad site' - all of these can put off potential customers, and a surprising number of websites still adopt them as standard practice... be prepared to make some changes, and if you want some help, just let us know.

Can I update the site myself?
Yes! We are happy to include 'self-managed' update areas in your website that allow you to add and remove text and/or images yourself - talk to us about how we can do this. However, once we've built your site, we do suggest that you contact us regarding adding new graphics or changing the site layout. This isn't simply a tactic to get more money from you - rather a way of ensuring your site stays looking consistent, and as good as possible at all times.
